Junior and Adult Saturday Club Junior Saturday Club Saturday Club dates for 2008 22nd March; 26th April; 31st May; 21st June; 19th July; 30th August; 20th September; 25th October and 22nd November (Topper only). What is Junior Saturday Club? Junior Saturday Club is an informal sailing event for juniors and cadets from 6 to 16 years. It’s about having fun in boats in a safe and controlled environment. Although it is not a formal course, instruction is given within ability groups and beginners are welcome. The sessions are split into two main groups, the younger ones in Oppies and older ones in Toppers. More experienced sailors and young racers work in smaller groups in double and single handed boats to work towards further RYA qualifications etc. As a guide, the age range in the Oppies is 6 to 10 and Toppers 10 and up. This is only a guide and depends on experience and confidence. Note that children under 10 yrs require a parent or responsible adult to stay on site during the sessions. When is Junior Saturday Club? Once a month starting at Easter and running to October for Oppies and November for Toppers. The dates are not at the same time each month as they are fitted in around other events. This year’s dates are as show above. Occasionally dates are changed so please keep a check in newsletters where any alterations will be given well in advance. What time and do I need to register? Times for Toppers and Oppies are 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, however Oppies may finish earlier if it is too cold. Registration is required by the Wednesday prior to each Saturday club, at the very latest. This helps to ensure we have enough instructors, as well as sufficient power boats and drivers we organise the sessions. The aim is to be ready to launch at 10.00 am, and we come off the water just after 12.00 noon to start packing away. Children with their own boats need to know how to rig them correctly and have all the necessary parts for their boats with them. If you require assistance with rigging there is usually someone around to give advice. If your child is using a club boat please help us get them out and put them away at the end of the session as many hands make light work. Adult Saturday Club This is run more as an open clinic and covers anything and everything you may want help with be it racing, cruising or improved boat handling. Registration is the same as for juniors, by the Wednesday prior to Saturday club. It is easier to assist if we know what it is you require help with, enabling us to organise an instructor, race coach or a specialist in your particular boat class.
