Crawley Mariners YC Openday Sunday 19th May 2013
Once again we are opening our doors to the public to what has become a very popular local event. Come and try sailing at Hedgecourt Lake, a designated ‘site of special scientific interest’ situated between Crawley and Felbridge.
Fun for all the family at the friendliest Sailing club in the southeast.
What is on offer?
An opportunity, without obligation or charge, to experience sailing on the lake with one of our experienced helms. Visiting the sailing club also gives you a chance to check out our facilities and get more information on membership and the courses we offer as an RYA Training Centre and our sailing programme.
Can I bring the whole family?
Yes we cater for all. Typically we take two people at a time each with an experienced helm, so we may ask families to 'pair up' if necessary. For those that want to stay on land we will have tea and coffee available from our galley to enjoy while you take a seat to watch the fun unfold.
Will I get to sail the boat?
We hope everyone that comes will want to try sailing for themselves and become a member to learn how to sail on our beautiful lake. At our open days however, you can relax as our helms will look after sailing the boat while answering any questions you may have.
What do I need to bring with me?
Dress according to the climate so if it is raining do not be put off, just wear a light weight rain proof jacket. In all climates please come with some soft soled shoes so that you have some grip and will not damage the boats. It is advisable to bring a spare pair of footwear and socks etc., just in case. We will supply a buoyancy aid (floatation device) for the duration of your trip round the lake.
Will I get wet?
Although staying dry cannot be guaranteed with a water sport it is not our intention to get anyone wet. A change of footwear is recommended (see "What do I need to bring with me?").
What type of boat will I be put in?
The boats we typically use at our open days are the big and stable ones like GP14's and Wanderer's, but the emphasis is on providing enough space for a couple of visitors at a time to take to the water with one of our helms.
When is the best time to arrive?
Availability is on a first come first served basis, so don't delay.
10am until 4pm
How do I get there?
Directions via road or air are available here How to find CMYC.
We look forward to welcoming you to Crawley Mariners - see you there.
