The New Year Pursuit Race - Sunday 6th January 2013
Make sure you put this date in your diary! This will be our first race and social event of 2013 and it's a good opportunity to blow away those New Year headaches and reard yourself with a glass or 2 of mulled wine afterwards!
The race is a pursuit race which means that boats with a slower handicap start first and boats with a faster handicap start last. The first boat over the line wins the Race.
Should the Lake turn into an ice-rink (like it can do at this time of year), rest assured the mulled wine will still be available even if the sailing isn't! There will be a certain amount of alcoholic and non-alcoholic mulled wine available but feel free to bring along your own and we can compare recipes! Mince pies and nibbles will also be gratefully received!
We like to think of this event as a bit of fun so dig out those crazy looking hats from your drawers and get yourselves noticed on the water.
Reserve your tickets for the Awards Dinner Dance by 16th January 2013.

Our annual Dinner Dance Awards Evening is creeping up and it’s now time to book your places. Although this evening is always very popular, we have decided to give it a slightly different look this year.
Firstly, you will find that we have changed the venue to the Dorothy Hatswell Room at the Haven Centre. Those of you who have been along to the recent Dry Meetings will recognise the venue. Secondly, we have changed our DJ this year. His name is also Mark and he would like to know if you have any special requests. Please let me know what your personal musical tastes are so I can pass these onto Mark before the event. We would hate to think that you weren’t dancing because you didn’t like the music. You’ve got no excuse!
One thing that hasn’t changed is our Caterer, Carol from Elliott Jones who has provided us with some tasty dishes over previous years. Starters and desserts will be served at the table and the main course will be served as a hot buffet. This year, we are asking you all to bring your own choice of drinks, as a bar will not be available. This will hopefully knock down the cost of the evening.
The awards for the 2012 season will be presented after the meal. Attractive glassware goes to the runners-up and first lady, cadet and junior in certain series. Then there are a number of special awards for the cruising section, best newsletter article, outstanding contribution and volunteer awards. Following this, everyone can let their hair down and enjoy themselves, whether that be chatting with friends or dancing the night away!
You will notice that the price of the evening has increased very slightly on last year. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable but still presents very good value. We ask that you book your places no later than16th January 2013 as sufficient time is needed to advise the caterers of numbers etc. To encourage you to apply quickly, we will accept cheques post-dated to 25th January 2013. If you are one of our new members, this is a great opportunity to meet some older ones and have a good time. Please note that friends and family are most welcome too!
As the caterers only do reduced price meals for those under 12, the committee have again agreed to offer a discount to young sailors who are 18 and under, to encourage them to come along for the evening therefore easing the cost for those bringing the whole family.
So, please don’t delay! Get those forms filled out and write those post-dated cheques before you forget about them! I look forward to receiving your reservations soon!
