Comet Open - 21 September 2019

Sixteen boats took part in the CMYC Comet Open. Six visitors and ten home boats. They were rewarded with a beautiful sunny day and a consistent ESE Force three wind. Perfect conditions for racing on Hedgecourt Lake.

As our usual race platform was ashore for refurbishment the racing was managed from a RIB repurposed as a committee boat. The format for the day was for two 45 minute races back to back in the morning, lunch in the clubhouse and then another two races in the afternoon.

In race one Eddie Pope, Ogston SC, led from the first lap with Simon Thompson in second, positions which they maintained to the finish. After a poor first race national champion, Bob Dodds reasserted his usual form in race two overhauling Eddie on the second lap. They finished first and second respectively.

In race three Bob again finished first with Eddie in second. Race four was a different story however with Bob being boxed in at the start. Andrew Keynes led at the first mark but Eddie soon got a clear lead which he maintained despite being closely pursued by Annette Walter in the closing stages.

A big thank you to the race team and support boat crews. Thanks also to Adrian and Caroline who provided a wonderful lunch for the competitors and race team.
