WSSYSA Regatta at Felpham

Standing at the back of the marque on Sunday 8th September at Felpham sailing club during the West Sussex regatta. I heard a parent say ‘where do Crawley Mariners sail’? ‘An old millpond in Felbridge near East Grinsted’ I said. Normally I get asked that question when drinking a cup of coffee around a table after the mad rush of getting the young sailors on the water. However, this was different. it was at the prize giving!

The regatta started the day before, and Miles was in the fast fleet in a laser radial. Daisy, Vicky, Leah, Maria, Emily and Lauren were in three Fevas in the medium fleet. Anna, Luke and Oliver in Toppers in the slow fleet and Eva in the rookie fleet in a Topper. The results came in for the first race. MYC finished 3rd in the fast fleet, 1st 2nd and 3rd in the medium fleet, 2nd in the slow and 2nd in the rookie fleet. It continued for every race CMYC picking up either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in every race.

Saturday night was spent camping at Cobnor with a fish and chips supper. All families had a good nights sleep - even the campers with no tent poles and the wrong tent poles. Sunday was more of the same. Sun, some wind and great results from our sailors.

Overall the CMYC team came second. An outstanding achievement for our young sailors with only eight boats in the competition. Felpham SC, who won, had 45 boats.

The West Sussex Regatta is a lovely weekend at the end of the summer and I would recommend it to all our families who sail at CMYC. Thank you to everyone who came along and special thanks to Diana and Mike Thompson who organised.
