Autumn Leaf Racing Update

Following on from my push in September’s newsletter to get more members competing in the Autumn Leaf, the results have so far been very encouraging.

Race 1
Resulted in 16 boats taking part in a reasonable wind of about 10mph gusting 19mph, all 16 boats finished with some very close racing in the comet race and in the handicap fleet it was only 2 seconds on corrected time between 1st and 2nd place.

Race 2
The wind of 21mph gusting high 30s played a big part in this race but did not stop 17 boats starting, unfortunately 5 did not finish due to various reasons, this included myself, and of those that did finish some had one or more capsizes due to some nasty wind shifts.

Race 3
Hedgecourt was back to its normal state of 7mph wind gusting 13mph with a couple of the marks having very little wind most of the time and when they did it was very shifty. 14 boats started the event and within the two fleets there was a series of small battles on the water taking place. Big congratulations must go to Sebastian Gatton in an Optimist for coming second in the handicap race, not bad for only really been sailing about six months.

Race 4
A lot of competitors missed this race as they were down at Cobnor in Chichester for the Kids weekend which enabled the remaining nine a chance to gain a better score due to reduced competition, to some I’m not sure it worked out that way.

Four races down six more to go in the series and as you only need five to count; you all have time to enter.
Here’s what our new member, Clementine Chilvers has to say.

“Ahoy there! I joined CMYC in the summer and made to feel so welcome. Passed the RYA Adult Level 1 & 2 Dinghy Sailing Course and now taking part in the Autumn Leaf Racing, honing my new skills & having an absolute blast, whatever the weather.
“So glad I got on board, thank you to everyone involved. Come & join the fun - it's a great crack!”

Come on all you members get those boats out on the water and join in, you will see by the results in the handicap fleet its anyone’s.

See you on the water! - Mirror 55424
