Onboard with CMYC
Last week I received a Certificate for CMYC’s Renewal of British Youth Sailing (BYS) Recognised Club status from Paul Wren (High Performance Manager – East, London and South East).
Below is a paragraph from the letter that accompanied the certificate:
“....... We appreciate your commitment to the development of junior and youth racing and race training and your alignment to the BYS Value and Behaviours. Your BYS Recognised Club appoinment is awarded annually and is subject to your club maintaining its RYA Training Centre status and continuing to meet the criteria and standard to remain a BYC club, including representation at the BYR Regional Junior Championships. In 2019 your club was represented by 8 sailors. The 2020 championships will be held on 26/27th September at Queen Mary SC. We very much look forward to seeing some of your junior sailors there......”
Many thanks to Lauren & Emily Hetherington who competed in the Feva class; Edwin & Samson Cross; Oliver Gatton; Luke Townsend and Eva Carmichael who competed in the Topper class. Not forgetting Sebastian Gatton who entered in the OnBoard Optimist Fleet. The weather was very challenging for the sailors and their ‘beach team’, who they were very grateful to have onshore. Following on from this event Edwin, Samson and Oliver were invited to join the RYA L & SE Topper Squad, and Luke was presented with a dry bag for his BYS Values and Behaviour (respect & integrity to do the right thing).
London & South East Youth Bursaries: Applications were sent for Edwin, Samson and Oliver giving details of their attainments so far, and what they hoped to achieve in the future. There is also mention in the form as to how they intend to help their own club passing on their knowledge and skills to other young sailors. You will be delighted to hear that they all received a bursary and we wish them all good luck with their sailing during 2020 and onwards.
Thank you to all the Instructors and Volunteers who make it possible for our young sailors to be able to take up all these great opportunities, and to all of the sailors for putting CMYC ‘on the map’.
