West Sussex Regatta 2023
You may well receive the September newsletter after this event has been held, but thought you may like to know a little more about the event.
Since 2000 a team from CMYC has attended the larger NSSA Regatta each year in July, this regatta is held at a variety of clubs each year, sometimes inland and sometimes at the coast.
During those years we have also taken a team to the WSSYSA Regatta which is a smaller and more local affair. All the clubs along the West Sussex coast, and the clubs in Chichester Harbour, take it in turn to hold this event. All of these venues are tidal and launch and recovery is very varied. This will be the first time that Itchenor have hosted it.
We will have a team of eleven young people sailing RS Fevas; ILCA 6 (Laser Radial); Laser 4.7 and Toppers with both 5.3 and 4.2 rigs. Depending on the location of the club we usually camp for the Saturday night to avoid parents having to drive back and forth each day. There will be three Fleets: Fast and Slow handicap and a Rookie Fleet for those who have not raced at an event before. This time we have three sailors in this fleet.
The host club usually request clubs taking part to supply a powerboat and crew to ensure sufficient safety cover. We usually take one of the club’s sea ribs as this gives our PB drivers (with a safety boat endorsement) an opportunity to experience driving in tidal waters, laying race marks, dealing with capsizes and towing several dinghies at once.
6th - Slow Fleet
3rd, 12th & 14th - Rookie Fleet
1st, 3rd, 17th, 21st, 23rd - Medium Fleet
Amazing results - well done!
