Additional activities
More Than Just Sailing
While our heart belongs to sailing, life at Crawley Mariners extends well beyond the dinghy park. Whether you want to swim in the open water, paddle a kayak, race a model yacht, or lend a hand with our estate team, there is always something happening at Hedgecourt Lake.
We are a community that loves being outdoors. These additional activities are a fantastic way to enjoy the lake, meet different members, and make the most of our beautiful setting.
🏊 Open Water Swimming
Experience the lake from a new perspective.
For those who love the peace and invigoration of wild swimming, Hedgecourt Lake offers a stunning, sheltered venue. We take water quality seriously, with regular testing to ensure a safe environment.
- Dedicated Times: Enjoy the water in peace during specific slots on weekday mornings, weekends, and Thursday evenings.
- Safety First: We operate a buddy system (swimming in pairs) to keep everyone safe.
- Accessible: You don’t need to be a sailor to join—we offer a dedicated Open Water Swimming membership.

🛶 Instructed Kayak Sessions
Grab a paddle and explore.
If you prefer a double-blade paddle to a sail, our Monday evening kayak sessions are the perfect way to get on the water. These are friendly, instructed group sessions suitable for all abilities.
- All Gear Provided: No kayak? No problem. The club has a fleet of boats available for you to use.
- Learn Skills: Our instructors will help you develop flat-water kayaking skills in a relaxed setting.
- Social Evenings: A great way to start the week with fresh air and friends.
⛵ Model Yacht Sailing
Big competitive fun on a small scale.
You don’t need to get wet to enjoy sailing! Our Model Yacht Group is a growing community of enthusiasts who race radio-controlled yachts. It is tactical, competitive, and incredibly accessible.
- The Boats: We primarily race the Dragon Force 65 class—an affordable, high-performance model that is easy to transport.
- New Group: We are now affiliated with the Model Yacht Association and have big plans for a racing series in 2025.
- Give it a Go: Don’t have a boat? We have a club model you can try out to see if you catch the bug.
🛠️ Tuesday Volunteer Group
The unsung heroes of CMYC.
If you visit the club on a Tuesday morning, you will find a hive of activity. The “Tuesday Group” is a band of willing volunteers who keep our clubhouse, boats, and estate in top condition.
- Social & Active: It’s not just about work; it’s about camaraderie, coffee, and biscuits!
- Diverse Skills: From engine servicing to gardening and bonfires, there is a job for everyone.
- Great Days Out: The group also organises social outings to museums and places of interest.
