Juniors Activities at CMYC

We welcome Juniors of almost any age, there is always an option for you whether you are a total novice or have sailed before elsewhere.

Once a month, from March to November, our Junior Saturday Clubs are the heartbeat of the informal club training. They provide informal sailing sessions for juniors and youths from 6 to 15 years of age. Those aged 16 and over can join in with the Adult Saturday Club. It is about having fun in boats and learning skills in a safe and controlled environment.

From the age of 10 youngsters can take the RYA Junior Courses Stages 1 and 2 and then progress on to Stages 3 and 4. The more advanced RYA syllabus opens up then as well: Sailing with Spinnakers, Seamanship Skills and Performance Sailing.

Under the guidance of the RYA we have structured our Junior Race Training for young sailors and we are proud to be one of the selected British Youth Sailing Recognised Club. In recent years we have also had visiting RYA coaches running extra coaching sessions for Toppers, Laser and RS Fevas sailors.

Twice a year (Spring and Autumn) we take a group of around eighteen students for the Cobnor Weekends in Chichester Harbour, numbers permitting. These weekends are very popular and as most have learnt to sail on our small lake, this is an important and exciting part of our programme.

During August, the Mariners hold their annual Junior Helm Week, this is ‘the' event in the junior calendar, when around 50 youngsters, aged between six and sixteen attend, to either learn to sail or help others to sail and to have fun whilst doing so.
