Cobnor Weekends (suitable for those aged 13 to 19)

If we have sufficient numbers we take a group of our youths (and adults if there is space) to Cobnor Activity Centre in Chichester Harbour. These weekends are very popular with everyone involved. As most of the young sailors have learnt to sail on our small lake, this is an important part of our programme, as it allows young sailors to understand and experience sailing on much larger tidal waters.

The centre is located in a quiet, sheltered area of the harbour, surrounded by fields on the land side and with easy launching on site. We  take along some of our club boats (RS Quests/2000) allowing the young sailors to experience the thrill of planing spinnaker dinghies with a trapeze; great fun!

We take one or two of the clubs sea ribs, enabling members with a Safety Boat endorsement to practice their skills in a tidal situation. During the weekend we visit various parts of the harbour depending on tide and weather constraints and are on the water for most of the day.

Accommodation consists of a dining hall, kitchen and sleeping accommodation in a log cabin.

To run the weekend we need parents to plan the catering and cook. Our instructors and power boat crews give their time voluntarily, so it is important that we feed them well. Those helping with cooking can also sail. Everyone is expected to help with washing up and cleaning duties during the stay.
